Crop Choice & Biodiversity

- Fundamentals -
  • Interplay between crop production and livestock can lead to improved soil health and biodiversity.

  • Ecosystem resilience is the ability for your soil, land, plants and animals to bounce back from harsh conditions.

  • Biodiversity is key for ecosystem resilience.
    • Pollinator strips, rotational grazing, intercropping, cover crops, and wildlife habitat are all ways to improve your operations biodiversity.

  • Beneficial insects and predators can be key to reducing inputs like insecticide or pesticide once a functioning ecosystem has established.

  • Companion cropping and intercropping in general, can be a great alternative to monocultures and can provide a great deal of benefits.

    •  Knowing what cropping recipes to use for your region and expected outcome is integral to success.
